Some General Advice:

It is important to follow the specific instruction for your treatment, however here are some general guidelines to follow.

Medications: If antibiotics are prescribed, continue to take them for the indicated length of time, even if all symptoms and signs of infection are gone. If pain medication is prescribed, take it only as directed and on timely manner. Don't take medication on an empty stomach, or you can get nauseous.

Home care:It is important to resume your normal dental routine as soon as possible (please see specific instructions for your particular procedure). This should include brushing your teeth and tongue and flossing at least once a day. This speeds recovery and helps keep your breath and mouth fresh.

Smoking: If your procedure involved local anesthetic, do not smoke at least 24 hours after your treatment. This can restrict airflow and reduce your body oxygen level.

After Local Anesthetic: If your procedure involved local anesthetic, your lips, teeth and tongue may be numb for several hours after the appointment. Avoid any chewing until the numbness has completely worn off.

Knowledge of the Procedures is one of the best tools available to alleviate anxiety and apprehension. Understanding procedures and their benefits helps patients be in control, and to make intelligent choices regarding their individual care. In our office, we utilize many patient educational programs, including Caesy Patient Education, Dentrix Patient Education. We have found that people like to learn as much as possible about the procedures that they will undergo.

Quality of Care is another important factor. An individual can be assured that their therapy is being performed with best training, equipment, and materials. Continuing education is one of the ways that patients may determine the knowledge base of the treating doctor and staff.

Sterilization & Cleanliness is another concern that patients have. We take no risks with your health. Sterilization and infection control is maintained to the highest standards. Instruments are sterilized between usage. Disposables are used whenever possible. Operatories and exam room fixtures and furnishings are continually cleaned and disinfected.

Modern technologies and procedures make it possible to utilize techniques that minimize discomfort, anxiety and help assure excellent results. By incorporating new technologies and latest procedures, we can minimize the use of local anesthetics. These techniques also reduce the amount of time it takes to complete a procedure. Digital technologies reduce the radiation by 90% when taking x-rays. For more information, see out technologies page.

Sedation options are an important adjunct to procedures. Some times sedation is important due to nature of the procedure and sometimes it is necessary due to the apprehension level of the patient. We feel that the options should include oral sedation, nitrous-oxide sedation, and IV sedation. Ability to choose from full range of options will allow us to tailor sedation needs for the individual patient. With our stress reduction program, we feel that even the most apprehensive patient can reduce the level of sedation needed by using our apprehension control program.
