Since the late 1800's dentists have been lightening teeth by various forms of the agent hydrogen peroxide. Some years ago, a new form of peroxide was developed called carbamide peroxide. It is most often used in the form of a gel, placed into a special laboratory fabricated custom fit tray that is worn anywhere from one to four hours a day per treatment. When it comes in contact with the teeth, the carbamide peroxide releases oxygen, and lifts the stain off of your teeth. This material should only be used under the supervision of a doctor. One Possible side effect is sensitivity and we can always resolve this with desensitizing agents.
